Biography

Vandenbranden studied at the free academy L’Effort in Brussels. From the early 1950s he created lyrical abstract works. Beginning in 1954, he worked completely geometrically abstract. Color plays a central role here. The colors are applied in homogeneous, smooth surfaces. In 1956, Vandenbranden joined the group Art Abstrait; he also co-founded Formes (1956), Art Construit (1960), the New Flemish School (1960) and the International Study Center for Constructive Art (1972).
