Biography

German-born painter Richard Lindner studied at the Kunstgewerbeschule in Nuremberg and the art academy in Munich. In 1941 he emigrated to the U.S. where he worked as an illustrator for a number of magazines. In New York, he began painting in 1952. His work is inspired by the underworld or borrowed from American mass culture. He made figurative art and is considered a forerunner of Pop Art.
