Biography

Breetvelt studied at the Polytechnic School in Delft and the Academy of Visual Arts in The Hague. He designed and painted sets for several pottery factories. Between 1902 and 1906, he worked for Société Céramique in Maastricht. His designs around that time were influenced by Art Nouveau and Japanese printmaking, showing butterflies and abstracted flowers. Later, his designs consist more of geometric decors.
