Biography

Italian artist Scanavino studied at the Nicolò Barabino Art Academy in Genoa. He spent 1947 in Paris where he came into contact with Camille Bryen, among others. In 1954, his later trademark appears in his work; the stylized knot. This develops more and more in the paintings of the late 1970s into a knot that becomes easily recognizable as such. According to critics, Scanavino’s work aligns with Abstract Expressionism and informal abstraction after World War II.
