Biography

Georges studied at the University of Lille and began painting at the same time in 1948, after meeting several artists at the Galerie Evrard, including the painter Édouard Jaguer of the Phases group. In Lille, he also made the acquaintance of Henri Michaux, Georges Matthieu, and Michel Tapié. Beginning in the 1950s, his art received international attention and recognition. Georges participated in Documenta II in Kassel in 1959. That same year, he also exhibited at the first Paris Biennale. He is considered an exponent of Tachism; painting uses paint splashes, spots, drips or drips (tache = stain). This form of painting, among others, is applied itself in the postwar period between 1945 and 1960 in lyrical abstraction and informal movement (different from geometric abstraction, informal indicates the abandonment of formal principles, it is more about an intuitive form of expression).

Georges’ work seems less intuitive and spontaneously conceived (characteristic of Tachism). He uses beautiful forms that seem to float in space and seem to belong in an alien world.
