Biography
Arman (after a printer misspelled his name, he retains it) studied at the Ecole Nationale des Arts Décoratifs in Nice. In 1949, he left for Paris where he went to study at the École du Louvre. In 1960, Arman was a founding member of the Nouveau Réalisme artist group. These artists worked everyday into their works of art. Arman was also affiliated with the ZERO in Germany. In 1961, Arman went to the United States; in addition to French citizenship, Arman had American citizenship from 1973.
He is known for his accumulations first appearing in 1962; collections of everyday objects contained in transparent polyester castings or Plexiglas cabinets.
